When we originally started our little workshop here in North Sydney, we never really expected to get so many folks enquiring about gaming events and if we will be hosting Dungeons And Dragons games, and others. I mean, just because we sell RPG terrain and miniatures doesn’t automatically mean we have to host actual gaming events, does it?
Well, after pondering on this and the benefits and pitfalls of holding such events, and having learned from our experiences in trying these out over the past 2 years, we’ve decided to give it another crack. This time, we’re going big – but starting small.
With 3 gaming tables ready to go in our North Sydney workshop, and room for further expansion in a local hotel conference room, we think we can now cater to those hungry players looking for in-person gaming adventures in their local area.
Will this be a North Sydney Dungeons & Dragons club?
Maybe.
I tried to launch this a year or so ago, but didn’t actually get a lot of traction and it all felt a little awkward. Apologies to those who made the effort to participate in those few games we did have. In hindsight, it was mostly due to my own complacency. This time round, I won’t be taking on so much responsibility. Meaning I was trying to be all things to all people last time. This time round, I’m handing the reigns over to very capable and experienced Dungeon Masters and event co-ordinators to make sure we all have a fun and productive environment to play our roles.
So this brings me to the point of this post. Playing Dungeons And Dragons in North Sydney.
We’re looking for interested players and Dungeon Masters to register and help us put this together. You can go here to sign up to our list of interested people.
If we get enough people registered and willing to come along to a one-shot or on-going campaign, we’ll send details and you can then buy tickets.
Oh yes, this time, we’re doing it smart. We need to incentivise our DMs a little bit, and we also aren’t a free venue for the public to use. So, we’ll be selling tickets to these gaming days/nights. Initially we think $10.00 per game, per player is reasonable for a one-shot. The proceeds from these go directly to the Dungeon Master, who will in turn receive 50% in cash and 50% in store credits to spend on their personal hobby time.
Quite often, a one-shot can turn into an on-going campaign if the group works well together and they all agree to keep things going. This will be up to each individual table to decide. We’ll take a poll at the end of the one-shot to make this determination. If a group decides to continue their sessions beyond the one-shot, we’ll put you on a monthly subscription plan. This is yet to be determined, however.
For those of you who’ve been to our shop, you’ll know we have a beautiful gaming table and two taller tables in the centre where we can accommodate DND sessions. We’ll space them out so each group is not disturbing the next. Dungeon Masters can use whatever terrain and miniatures we have in the workshop also, and we have a-lot. We’ll also be able to produce scenery models ahead of game sessions once we know what encounters and scenarios are planned. We’ll work with Dungeon Masters on this to make sure they have what they need to make the gaming sessions outstanding. The benefits of running a 3D printing production facility – i.e. print-on-demand.
Overall, we’re excited to bring in-person Dungeons & Dragons (5E, 2024 rules) to the North Sydney gaming community and we hope it becomes a new standard and grows in popularity over time.
And of course, we’re planning lots of giveaways, competitions, and the like to go along with our events. Just to make things a little more interesting. Watch this space (as they say).
Go here now to register your interest and let’s roll some dice together.
Thank you.
